Bottom up adoption at large scale at record speed

When we started, we had a situation in which teams were doing Agile at team level with quite different levels of maturity, and a general mindset that was very agile. To cause a leap forward to start running a more agile business portfolio, we needed to make some big changes, however we needed to keep a very close eye on the already self-directing and positive mindset and way of working in all the teams and their direct connection to business. Using SAFe as a binding mechanism, we were able to drive change at radical speed without the ‘burning platform’ that is so often associated with disruptive change. This session will cover some of the learnings, the approach and what we would do different next time.

Outline/structure of the Session

First explain the situation we were in, give some context, then we will go into the patterns of change we used to move fast at a pretty big scale.

We will end with the 5 take-aways that were paramount to make the change happen so fast. I don't want to share the slides yet, as that would lead to things already be out there before the session, and the wonder of discovery should happen in the session

Learning Outcome

Have a good understanding of how to encourage and embrace failing to improve the speed of adoption

have a composition of the take-aways of a larger group shared, and confronted with your own

be aware of the more traditional ideas on how to manage change and how our take-aways intervened with these

Target Audience

Change Agents, Agile folks interested in speeding up adoption, Leadership interested in implementing Agile more from business and more than just IT

Yes. We have had quite beautiful results at a very high pace, so this is an experience report with some deeper insights in how to make change or transformation by combining some of the more traditional change approaches (burning platform...) with newer ideas (purpose, playful), to create movement bottom up at high pace.
