Recruiting agile coaches; hiring for mindset versus skillset.

Recruitment and selection for coaches requires finding people with a combination of the right mindset/attitude AND competencies (skillset).

This talk will take the audience through a real life case study on how Telstra sourced candidates for a recent recruitment drive for 60 ways of working coaches. Hiring processes had a strong focus on mindset using new ways of selection processes.

Once candidates had been selected they were enrolled into a micro-credential capability uplift program that recognised competency as it is achieved throughout a learning journey.

This presentation will proved practical insights from a real initiative that executed a bold experiment in prioritising mindset over experience during recruitment, selection and induction.

 
 

Outline/Structure of the Talk

Two challenging questions will be posed to the audience “How would you hire for mindset?” and “How do you know someone can actually execute the DOING of coaching; as opposed to being a subject matter expert?”

Facilitated in small groups for ideas, playback and share on the challenge questions, then a presentation on the Telstra case study and approach taken will be shown. This will provide data and insights from the recruitment and selection of 60 ways of working coaches that was undertaken in readiness for a large transformation activity.

Learning Outcome

The risks versus rewards of hiring for mindset. Practical examples of what happens when previous experience is considered for a coach selection process but is not the top priority. How to plan and execute a digital badging/micro-credentials program to manage coach competency across the coaching function.

    Hi,

    Thanks for submitting the proposal, hiring an agile coach is always a difficult task and with how many ever rounds of discussions with candidate we will not be able to find the mindset and don't know how much the person would fit the organisation.

    We would like to know more about the hiring or experimentation to hire agile coaches, please can you upload the slides which you would be using for the session.
