Background

In May 2015 my friends from Marine Parade told me about an idea they had for an app. 

In June I drew the evolutionary app on a piece of paper.

Using this paper together we raised bootstrap capital in September 2015 to build the app.

By March 2016 we finished the app and used it to raise Seed capital for the business.

As of May 2016 the business is valued at $14m. 

 

The session

During this session you will understand the basic parameters that enable the app to work.

You will marvel at its simplicity.

You will have questions which I will answer.

Then the fun starts as together we use whiteboards and words to brainstorm the next iteration of this market.

By the end of the session you will have understood:

a) what we did

b) how to do this yourself

c) you will have had a hand in creating the next iteration of our platform

Outline/structure of the Session

  1. Background
    • Understand the facts

    • Watch a video to see the app in action
  2. Experience the app
    • 2 min demo
  3. Step by step to creating a $14m business (guys this is to make the session fun in the context of this conference - I'm not suggesting it is easy to raise this capital. It is hard work and I will explain more in depth if requested during the session :-)

  4. Anyone can do this
    • Understand that this is just the beginning
    • Consider the vertical and horizontal integration 
    • That being the case...
  5. Think outside the app. Depending on demand for this workshop we will offer up to 3 streams of open-mic whiteboard workshops to iterate the next incarnation of the app. 
    1. Complimentary services - think outside the app. How can the platform be extended? What services can be offered to our userbase?
    2. Complimentary products - think outside the app. How can the platform be extended? 
    3. Smart finance - if you are a wanna be (or proven) CFO you will have ideas (or experience) on how the transaction volume can be its own asset
