Business transformation using 4DX approach and Scrum as the engine

When my previous organization (Travel Technology company) embarked on Agile Transformation journey, we started with Scrum framework. After 6 months, when coaches met with Agile Transformation Leader for a review, we realized that the results were sub-optimal. When we did a deeper drive into to find out root causes, we realized that the Business Units were having many initiatives and focused on many things. For them, agile was just another change initiative to the existing priorities. That’s when we started to discover how we can address their current business priorities through agile methods. And we came across 4DX (4 Disciplines of Execution). 4DX is a FranklinCovey's execution approach that talks about taking action on your strategic goals, not developing more theory. There are four clear road maps to help you overcome the “whirlwind” of the day-to-day work that keeps leaders, and teams, from executing the programs that drive real change.

The Four Disciplines are:

  1. Focus on the Wildly Important
  2. Act on the Lead Measures
  3. Keep a Compelling Scoreboard
  4. Create a Cadence of Accountability

In this talk I am going to share about my experience in implementing 4DX approach with Scrum as the product development engine.
