Agile Coaches as Engagers
The worldwide cost of attrition and low engagement is upwards of USD 600 billion every year! Surveys by ADP and others have shown that employee engagement levels in India stand at approximately 22% as of 2018. This means as much as 78% of the workforce is not engaged. Think about the tremendous impact we as agile practitioners can make in our organizations, if we increase engagement levels. Even a slight increase in team engagement can result not only in cost savings for the company but also increased performance.
In this workshop we will explore current engagement levels, review the latest research on metrics that influence employee engagement, understand the tremendous and far-reaching benefits of creating a fun, engaging workplace (drawn from research by Amy Edmondson and others) and brainstorm ideas to increase engagement in our teams and our organizations at large.
Through interactive facilitation approaches including 1-2-4-all, 25/10 crowdsourcing, gallery walk and others we will collectively generate ideas for increasing engagement in our teams.
By the end of this session you'll have concrete ideas to carry back to your teams and start implementing all while having a lot of fun!
Outline/Structure of the Workshop
We will start with a quick pair-share to discuss current engagement levels in teams (~ 5 minutes)
We'll explore data on employee engagement levels in India and worldwide. Has engagement decreased with time? We'll look at the negative effects of stress in teams. We'll discuss the tremendous benefits of creating a fun work environment where teams are fully engaged. And we'll learn all this through three different learner friendly games like Myth or Fact, Concept Center, Gallery Walk etc. (~ 25 minutes)
Using liberating structures like 1-2-4-all, 25/10 crowdsourcing, Triz and facilitation techniques such as standing survey, world cafe and others we will come together to brainstorm ideas to increase engagement in our teams. At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to carry back valuable actionable ideas for increasing engagement in their teams. (~ 30 mins)
We'll review the work we accomplished and do a gallery walk to see the ideas we brainstormed. We'll share some of the key ideas with each other, ideas that we can carry back to our teams and start implementing right away. ( ~15 minutes)
Q&A - we'll go over any questions/clarifications (~5 mins)
Conclusion (2 minutes)
