Blerina Nasto - Software Developers in Test Automation - A Dream or Reality in Agile Software Development?

    45 Mins
    Talk
    Beginner

Gone are the days of throwing software builds over the proverbial wall to a team of testers that sit and click pages all day. The agile way of working has shown that maybe a small revolution has started to happen in the world of software developers. The rising of software developers writing e2e functional tests that check their front-end using real browsers. Challenges of having success in this way of doing test automation are real. Let’s be sincere! Software Developers don’t like to write tests much, but the right TA framework can help. In this talk I will describe what we did to make this dream come true.

This is a real life story of how our product team made possible to succeed in delivering quality and speed in every sprint.

1. What got you started/interested in modern software development methods?

Modern Software Development is a booming industry and offers a career path with endless progression and opportunities.
However, a few reasons why I started with this fields can be summarized:

You can use and test your problem-solving skills
You can get creative with code & other non code related topics
You have continuous learning opportunities and never get bored :)

2. What do you think is the biggest challenge faced by the software product engineering community today?

Seen from the perspective of the software development the main challenge is about learning new programming languages, the frameworks, the systems and algorithms. As technology update and expands, developers need to keep themselves updated with them because framework, tools, libraries became outdated with time.
Another challenge in this field is the need more and more to be upskilled  in other dimensions of software engineering and build a  T-shape profile , not just specialized in one field.

3. What do you think are the most exciting developments in software product engineering today?

Cloud-Based Solution

Low-Code Platforms Development

Native Mobile-Development Languages

Serverless Computing

Big Data

Artificial Intelligence

4. Why did you choose the topic(s) you will be speaking about at the conference?

My talk is a real life story, experienced inside the team where my colleagues and I are part.

It describes real struggles on adopting test automation implementation and the journey how we decided to tackle and improve.

5. What are some of the key takeaways from your session(s) at Agile India?

Build a culture where developers are quality advocates

Build a test automation strategy that helps software developers succeed on this activities

Upskill developers on testing skills

Get everyone involved and make testing a team matter with the right tool based on the context of the system under test.

6. Which sessions are you particularly looking forward to attending at Agile India this year?

I am particularly interested in topics related with Testing & Test Automation and other DevOps topics.

7. Any personal remarks/message you want to share with the software community?

I am very enthusiastic to be part of Agile India community.

I hope that my talk can inspire developers, but not only, also other agile teams.
