Experience centricity is essential to drive business outcomes and has become the top priority of many CXOs. The COVID-19 crisis has made experience-centricity and IT agility paramount to nearly every business. In the post-COVID world, businesses need superior digital enablement and acceleration to ensure continuity, customer satisfaction and competitive edge.
Experience centricity, however, is not limited to creating new digital products and channels. It encompasses every aspect of software that can enhance an organization’s ability to solve business challenges and harness opportunities through digital solutions that are meaningful and delight end users – both inside and outside the enterprise.
The ongoing digital revolution and related opportunities, challenges and risks pose several questions in the minds of IT executives. What makes digital products go viral? What are some of the key success factors? How can we make digital initiatives thrive? How can organizations succeed in transforming monoliths into digital products or platforms?
Improving usability through the right mix of user interface and interaction design, application of design thinking, and focusing on functional and non-functional requirements are the foundations. Usability is essential. Usability ensures effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction. However, beyond usability, understanding the power of desirability and enhancing it is a prime factor. Desirability provides a meaningful, enjoyable and memorable experience. Desirability is what makes the users bond with the product with the ongoing delightful experience it creates resulting in a worthy engagement. Whether you create and deliver new products and applications or modernize existing applications to deliver an outstanding digital experience, enhancing desirability is essential.
This session is to present five considerations for enhancing desirability with real-world examples that reveal how any heritage organization can create experiences that help the business achieve its strategic aspirations and objectives.
1. What got you started/interested in modern software development methods?
In 1998, my colleagues and I got an opportunity to attend Martin Fowler's sessions on how to build software (when he was a consultant at Netscape Communications) to help a project team build an application for Sales function. He introduced XP, and Object-Orientation with very simple and practical examples. I remember, he delivered additional dedicated sessions on refactoring of source code written in Java. That is what got me started/interested in modern software development methods.
2. What do you think is the biggest challenge faced by the software product engineering community today?
The biggest challenge is about the speed at which the community needs to cope with all the ongoing innovations to delivery experience-led products. This is about focusing on continuous or perpetual learning and experimenting while building or maintaining a product.
3. What do you think are the most exciting developments in software product engineering today?
The most exciting developments are about how technology makes a difference in all sectors globally. The emergence of Digital Natives (FinTech, InsuranceTech, EduTech, HealthCareTech, and others) founded on the sophistication of cloud engineering that enables organizational agility, digital maturity and global presence is very exciting because it has changed the games of at least two key areas - technology innovation and software economics.
4. Why did you choose the topic(s) you will be speaking about at the conference?
Years ago I was curious about digital products that went viral. I read and researched about what makes them win because I wanted to figure out what makes end users bond with a product, resulting in a worth engagement, leading to a delightful experience. I found that it is all about 'Desirability'.
Enhancing desirability is essential for winning digital initiatives. It is related to User Experience, Customer Centricity, and Customer Obsession. I chose this topic because it is a very relevant and valuable topic. It is for all participants including Agile practitioners.
5. What are some of the key takeaways from your session(s) at Agile India?
Some of the key takeaways are 1) Understanding what it is and 2) Getting a clear view on 'how to' do it. Moreover, I look forward to trigger this new stream of thought in everyone so that they take it forward and implement it.
6. Which sessions are you particularly looking forward to attending at Agile India this year?
I am looking forward to sessions on 'Digital Disruption', 'Design Innovation', and 'Agile Mindset'. I am going to go through the session topics and identify some sessions under these categories.
7. Any personal remarks/message you want to share with the software community?
Register and enjoy this conference. We have a well-balanced schedule for attendees at all levels with a very good selection of topics and international speakers. Have fun!
