Priti Vyas - The design of a future ready Enterprise Agile organization - Agile For HR
20 Mins
Talk
Intermediate
In today’s world, as digital transformation has given every area of business both the need and tools for change. Although digital transformation is heavily technology-centered, these are just as much about the people as they are about the technology.
When an organization is just embarking upon a transformation journey or planning to go beyond projects following agile, the backbone or very strong foundation that often goes unnoticed is the role HR (Human Resource) has to play. The intent here is not to talk about just HR as a function or department but rather as enablement or pivotal role that is very vital for an organization to succeed.
The session is how HR makes a shift towards enabling a traditional organization to move towards transformation. This is about changing the very fabric of an organization, which is changing the work environment for newer ways of working and preparing the workforce for new-age skills. I am going to share about how an organization leveraged will-skill-fill – Wisconsin’s model-based transformation approach towards moving traditional roles into agile roles, learnings, and curriculum aligning to the same. An organization may need a radical shift towards the organization structure, enabling a continual learning environment, sourcing right-fit talent, managing performance, and keeping employees engage remotely.
The session is a culmination of my experience of observing and helping many organizations riding through the change. I shall also be taking the participants through a case study of a large organization taking a design thinking-based approach as a first step towards the journey

1. What got you started/interested in modern software development methods?
In my career span of more than 20 years, I have worked with diverse industries, geographies and customer organizations of various scales. In 2009, I was leading Rapid Prototype Development program for one of the largest shipping company where in we were collaborating with business users across Europe for their changing requirements. That got me and my teams thinking and improving about newer ways of working, NFRs, collaboration, technical capabilities, ability to respond to customers needs quickly. There is no looking back since then.
2. What do you think is the biggest challenge faced by the software product engineering community today?
In my view the biggest challenge our world today facing is VUCA - Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity. What has been build over decades and years is becoming irrelevant within short span. The necessity to drive or respond to digital transformation is immense. Now different industries , disciplines and aspects like software, hardware, infrastructure, people are so intertwined that it's opening up new opportunities as well as posing risks. So, envisioning customer centric solutions with so many moving parts is in my view the biggest challenge.
3. What do you think are the most exciting developments in software product engineering today?
As mentioned above, different industries , disciplines and aspects like software, hardware, infrastructure, people are so intertwined that it's opening up new world of possibilities that hasn't been there. We are living in and dealing with a world of massive data, mixed reality, hyper connected world which is ever changing. And I think that's the most exciting part.
4. Why did you choose the topic(s) you will be speaking about at the conference?
As mentioned above, we are living in and dealing with a world of massive data, mixed reality, hyper connected world which is ever changing. While digital transformations take over our world, we, humans, will continue play a key role in designing, orchestrating and enabling the future for different organizations. Hence, it's vital to consider various dimensions of human experience as well. And hence this topic that covers these aspects.
5. What are some of the key takeaways from your session(s) at Agile India?
- Understand the role of HR in enabling Enterprise Agile within the organizations
- Key considerations for enabling successful digital transformation
- Understand and learn how some of the leading organizations are approaching the same
- Key learnings from the case study that can be applied to their transformation
6. Which sessions are you particularly looking forward to attending at Agile India this year?
I am looking forward for sessions and casestudies related to Sustainability, design thinking and people aspects,
7. Any personal remarks/message you want to share with the software community?
The only personal remark I have is it's no longer a software community :) Looking at the interplay between human, software, hardware, infrastructure and this hyper connected world, continual learning and adaptation is vital. Stay relevant.
