Overcome Transformation Impediments With Outcome-Driven Agility

In a world of exponentially increasing market disruption, it is more important than ever for organizations to achieve organizational agility, which is why many companies are embarking on Agile transformations. However, few of them are realizing the full agile results promised.

This workshop, leaders will learn common impediments to organizational agility and how focusing on developing agile capabilities instead of implementing Agile practices will lead to success in achieving the desired business outcomes.

Outline/Structure of the Workshop/Game

Introduction - 10 mins

I will start off by asking attendees to define “good” agility. Then, I will introduce four states of agility--superficial, improving, predictable, and fast--and ask attendees to assess their organizations’ level of agility. I will poll the answers & discuss the results with the group.

Discussion & Activities- 30 minutes

The majority of the talk will focus on two impediments most organizations face. I will introduce the impediment, discuss the impacts associated with it, and facilitate a small activity to reinforce the knowledge.

Impediment #1: Implementing Solutions Without Clarity In Desired Results

I will ask attendees to group what they wrote down for “good agility” into one of the four categories I will define: Agile Practice, Agile Capability, Agile Outcome, or Business Outcome. Then, we will discuss as a group.

Impediment #2: Not Approaching As An Organization-Wide Change

I will present three levels on which to focus their Agile transformation: team, system, and organization. I will discuss the dangers of focusing only on one level. Then, I will ask attendees to form triads and discuss why it would be good to form an Agile Leadership Team and have them use Agile practices to run the transformation.

Conclusion/ Q&A - 5 mins
