Aliasger Kiranawala - Exploring better ways in API test automation

What is your experience with designing and building APIs?

Not much experience with design and development but explored enough on how to test them manually or via automation tools. Had worked on implementing or adopting frameworks to ease down regression effort for api testing.

While creating API Designs, implementing and / or consuming and testing them, what challenges have you faced / are facing?
  • Frequent contract changes and tackling them in API regression suites
  • Error/exception message handling
  • Test data utilisation, handling big json requests
  • Quickly setup tests for perf usecase, load testing with repeating same usecase multiple times
What do you plan to learn /explore at this conference?
  • New trends in API test and latest tools to ease out CD/CI processes
  • Concurrent or parallel suites execution strategies in case of CD/CI for multiple service
How do you plan to contribute?

This will be first few open forum for me to contribute but will try to reach out to open source owners and contribute to achieve most helpful setup or usecase in terms of API automation

In our experience, having participants write a position paper before coming to the conference leads to better discussion because people have thought about what they want from the conference. Last thing we want is to spend half of the conference time figuring out what you want to figure out.

A Position Paper is a simple paragraph which answers the following questions:

  • What's your experience with designing and building APIs?
  • While creating API Designs, implementing and / or consuming and testing them, what challenges have you faced / are facing?
  • What lessons have you learned with regards to designing and testing APIs?
  • What do you plan to learn /explore at this conference?
  • How do you plan to contribute?

* Note that the above questions are just pointers, you don't have to answer each one point by point.
