It is a well accepted fact that organizational culture is the single most important critical success factor for driving DevOps transformation. However, with the emphasis on Continuous Delivery, is the DevOps definition of cultural transformation is too limited to pre-production culture? Does the cultural value stream stop when the deployment button is pressed (or it presses itself)? While DevOps, ITSM and SRE do not share the same genesis, the dependencies for true end to end cultural transformation should be recognized and addressed.

The rapid pace of change in software delivery has also necessitated a change in the way enterprises approach ITSM processes. Many of these processes were designed and implemented at a time when waterfall development and command and control were the norm. The processes are still essential, but like all aspects of IT – they too must transform. Recent updates to ITIL (ITIL4) as well as increased interest in the practices of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) have potentially provided new insight into how to manage services in a digital world.

This session will explain the core principles and practices behindDevOps, ITIL 4 and SRE and then compare them to the principles and practices of the Three Ways of DevOps. In particular, the session will focus on how these frameworks, roles of DevOps, ITIL, SRE others :

  • Increase the flow of Change and Release Management
  • Improve incident response and resolution
  • Manage service level objectives
  • Share knowledge and shortening feedback loops
  • Optimize automation
  • Create an environment that fosters continuous learning and experimentation for DevOps Transformation and success
