Agile has provided us with some fantastic ways to improve our teams and help us deliver, but there is always more to learn and improve. In this presentation, we will look at some of the agile approaches used by high performing teams as well as some observations I have had over the years working with really good teams. We will also explore what the authors of the “5 Dysfunctions of a Team” are now saying about great teams.

Outline/Structure of the Talk

Introduction – Who am I

What I want you to take away today – “the one thing”

Agile has shown us:

  1. Great teams seek feedback often
  2. Great teams reflect and continually improve
  3. Great teams communicate

Speed dating activity

What I have observed:

  1. Great teams have diversity
  2. Great teams have purpose and a shared understanding
  3. Great teams have focus

Others say about teams (The Ideal Team Player):

  1. Humble
  2. Hungry
  3. Smart

What is your one thing?

Learning Outcome

Participants will learn (in simple language) what are some of the key characteristics of identifying and creating a high performing team. Through a easy activity, participants will also understand how to look at the standup and team communication differently. I will be asking participants to take away their personal "one thing" in this presentation that they can apply to their daily work.

This presentation received outstanding reviews from the Agile Brisbane Meet-up earlier this year ("simple, clear analogies with useful takeaways").
