Why won't they change? An explanation incorporating neuroplasticity, behavioural psychology and agile people change.

This practical talk aims to bring together the latest insights, research and knowledge from the field of neuroscience and neuroplasticity, my expertise and application of human behavioural models, rooted in psychology, my role as an agile and people change coach and what this means for agile transformation programs.

After recently spending 2 days in a workshop with Norman Doidge - Psychiatrist and author of 2 books about brain change, I believe this information adds a valuable dimension to the understanding of people change and how our brains change, learn, adapt to new conditions (and effectively resist them, despite knowing better), from a neurophysiology and human behaviour perspective.

Drawing on my years of experience in agile transformation and people change and Normans teachings, I aim to answer the following questions:

  • What is neuroplasticity?
  • How does the brain filter and process information?
  • What is the difference between the left and right brain?
  • How are our preferences for left or right brain thinking created?
  • What does that mean for our ability to accept change?
  • What is mental rigidity and how is it created?
  • What types of beliefs and attitudes create mental flexibility and mental rigidity?
  • How does the agile way of working affect neuroplastic changes?
  • First hand exercises on exploring mental rigidity
  • Exercises on how to access the left and right brain.
  • Participants get to take home information on the talk

Outline/Structure of the Case Study

The session will be a mixture of talk, presentation and some practical exercises.

Learning Outcome

  • Understanding Neuroplasticty
  • How the brain is structured and processes information
  • A general mental model unpacking all the behavioural aspects that shape the human brain
  • Delving deep into specific behavioural models and how they shape the brain?
  • How to recognise those models in yourself and others
  • First hand exercises on exploring mental rigidity
  • Exercises on how to access the left and right brain.
  • Participants get to take home information on the talk
