Can we think of using Scrum for Infrastructure Operations & Support teams?
Well, the most common thought will be to use the Kanban flavor of Agile for these kinds of projects. And yes, this is the most suited one which can be used along with the ITIL practices. In infrastructure domain, there are not many organizations which are using Agile as it is not easy to implement the Scaled Agile framework /Scrum as the nature of work is more from the operational perspective as compared to the product development space where the focus is on knowledge work.
Here in our organization we have tried and experimented on using scrum to create an agile organization that relentlessly automates, simplifies and engineers solutions that efficiently support growth and enable to accelerate innovation.
In this talk, you will understand how we have used Scrum and lean thinking to achieve the above mentioned agility goals.
Visualization of the basic work through the technique of value stream mapping (VSM) helped in deeper understanding of the process and identification of bottlenecks or wastes (any non-value added activity) for elimination

With all the advancements and evolutions in value generating frameworks such as Systems thinking, Lean startup, DevOps etc., one gets the impression that the Development team is getting sandwiched between Business and Operations. On one hand, the Agile principles prescribe seamless collaboration between Business and Development teams. The 3rd value of the Agile Manifesto and the 4th principle of Agile emphasize on this collaboration. Many serious Agile organizations, over the years, have succeeded in this collaboration. This part of cross-functional collaboration is reasonably optimized particularly in practices like Scrum.
On the other side of the spectrum, with increased attention now on Continuous delivery, faster feedback from the real world, Development team is expected to work hand in hand with Operations as well. The very first Agile principle does clearly say that Customer satisfaction is achieved through early and continuous delivery of working software. It is to recognize this value that the integration between Development and Operations becomes essential which resulted in DevOps practice.
This presentation takes a big picture view and delves on how it is imperative that Business, Development and Operations need to hold each other’s hands in effective ways to form a rail track for the Build->Measure->Learn feedback loop train to run efficiently on top of it delivering goods regularly at the destination station called Value. Based on our experience and interviewing other Agile teams, we talk about how the Development team can self-organize in this scenario of extending both hands; towards Business on one side and Operations on the other which we call cross-organizing. How Business and Operations holding hands creates value in what can be termed as BizOps. How a right set of integration links can be created between teams resulting in Continuous collaboration enabling faster creation of right value at right time.
