Design Led Approach to Problem Solving using Double Diamond

It’s a common mindset to jump into “Solution to a Problem” without deep thinking about the problem. We know what the solution is but do we really know what the problem is, have we really empathized with customer to solve the wicked problems? That’s where Innovative design practices come into picture.

In this workshop we will learn about a unique approach to problem solving, which you can apply in your day to day activities to bring out solutions which are long lasting and has meaningful outcome. Great tool for Product owners, Scrum Masters, team members and managers to apply.

We will pick a real time problem statement from agile world and see how a series of steps lead us to building a solution

Hi Nitin, thank you for submitting this session to RSGI. It is indeed an interesting workhop.

Can you please describe how you wish to engage participants during the 60 min problem solving slot, what types of problems would be discussed, what kind of activites are you planning.

Also is it possible to do this is in 45 min session if required.

      Hi Madhavi,

During workshop, we will solve a problem, generate ideas and build prototype of solution. Participants will be given a problem statement related to agile/product management.

First step would be to deep dive into discover stage where they try to understand problem better by identifying issues and prioritizing it and interviewing people. Outcome of this stage will be prioritized list of issues and insights from interview  -15 mins

2nd Step would be to re-define the problem statement. Here participants will create persona and create their journey map. They will finally create HMW statement which will redefine their problem and most likely give their A-Ha moment. -  15 mins

3rd step would be to go over HMW and ideate and then prioritize ideas. They will learn ideation techniques - 15 mins

4th step would be to go over prioritized idea and learn prototyping technique. And eventually each team will create a prototype of their solution and validate with their personas.- 15 mins

If it has to be run as a working session with participants, we minimum need this 60 mins for workshop and total 90 mins including initial briefing and some buffer time.

To run it in 45 min slot, I won't be able to run it as workshop. In this case, I will explain each stage to participant with pre-defined scenario and output for each stage and they will be able to follow the whole process through 7 steps. However Hands-on would be missing.

In the past conferences and training workshops, I have run this as both  -  a presentation(45 mins) and a workshop(1.5 to 3 hrs) and both are effective. Depending of slot availability it can be planned.

Hope this helps. Let me know if any further details are required.
