The Heart of Agile: A radically simpler approach to achieve outstanding outcomes.

With all the great Agile Frameworks, tools and certifications available it can be easy to lose focus on the Agile Mindset. The Heart of Agile is a movement to radically simplify your approach and achieve outstanding outcomes. Come discover how focusing on these core tenants of Agility can help you no matter what industry, framework or level of experience. And at the heart of it all, how bringing yourself makes all the difference in the world.

This is a workshop based talk where you will have opportunities to learn from other Agilists in attendance and also to share from your own experiences so others can learn from you. It will be highly collaborative and interactive. And at the end you will learn how you too can join the growing community in the Heart of Agile movement.

Outline/Structure of the Workshop

Introduction - 5-7 minutes: Have the audience introduce themselves to 2-3 people around them. Name, Job title, where they work, biggest challenge.

What the Heart of Agile isn't - 10 minutes: In this section I will discuss mostly the pros and cons of various Agile frameworks. Not diving deep, but giving an overview of what purpose they serve. I will also touch on the Agile manifesto - what it is and how we've gotten away from it.

What the Heart of Agile is - 10 minutes: A brief introduction of the Heart of Agile, it's origin, purpose, and the global community that is supporting and spreading it's message.

Collaborate - 15 minutes: An introduction of the topic of Collaboration. Then I'll have the room split into groups of 4 (or at their tables depending on set-up) and give them about 7 minutes to discuss as a group what "Collaborate" means to them. At the end of the time I'll ask for a few volunteers to share interesting discussion items that came up with the larger group. Then I'll show a short expansion of how the Heart of Agile leaders have expanded on this concept.

Deliver - 15 minutes: An introduction of the topic of Deliver. Then I'll have the room split into groups again (different groups if there are no tables) and give them 5-7 minutes to discuss as a group how and what they deliver. At the end of the time I'll ask for a few volunteers to share interesting discussion items that came up with the larger group. Then I'll show a short expansion of how the Heart of Agile leaders have expanded on this concept.

Reflect - 15 minutes: An introduction of the topic of Reflect. Then I'll have the room split into groups again and give them about 7 minutes to discuss as a group what they do to reflect and how they apply this concept. At the end of the time I'll ask for a few volunteers to share interesting discussion items that came up with the larger group. Then I'll show a short expansion of how the Heart of Agile leaders have expanded on this concept.

Improve - 15 minutes: An introduction of the topic of Improve. Then I'll have the room split into groups again and give them about 7 minutes to discuss as a group how they make improvement a part of their Agility. At the end of the time I'll ask for a few volunteers to share interesting discussion items that came up with the larger group. Then I'll show a short expansion of how the Heart of Agile leaders have expanded on this concept.

Humanity - 15 minutes: In this section I'll discuss how humanity is at the heart of any Agile endeavor. Without dialogue and openness our Agility is severely limited. I'll have the room break into groups one last time and discuss how they bring Humanity into their agile practice. At the end of the time I'll ask for a few volunteers to share interesting discussion items that came up with the larger group.

Summary - 5-7 minutes: To wrap up the session I will bring all the concepts together. I'll reinforce how this concept applies to any framework, organization or work-type. I'll reinforce how this is meant to simplify your Agile mindset and practices regardless your level of experience or situation.

Q & A - 10 minutes: My goal will be to leave 10 minutes at the end of the workshop for a Q & A session.
