Thank you for your proposal Solomon. It looks like an interesting idea.

We should be careful in using terms which are generally accepted to mean something else. Epidemiologist is one who practices epidemiology and that is the study of epidemics. I understand you are going to the very basic etymology of the word which means something else as you suggest, but the title is misleading.

So I would suggest you need to (a) think of changing the word and (b) think of changing the title.

      Hi Sir,

      Thank you for your suggestions.

The field Digital Epidemiology is the new field, which doesn't have standard definition yet. So this is my attempt to define the word "Digital Epidemiology", which will be justified later.

Wikipedia defines Digital Epidemiology as E-Epidemiology.
E-epidemiology (also known as Digital Epidemiology) is the science underlying the acquisition, maintenance and application of epidemiological knowledge and information using digital media such as the internet, mobile phones, digital paper, digital TV. E-epidemiology also refers to the large-scale epidemiological studies that are increasingly conducted through distributed global collaborations enabled by the Internet. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E-epidemiology)
and Marcel Salathe (Founder of Digital Epidemiology Lab) defines his own version of Digital Epidemiology which sounds interesting.
Digital epidemiology is epidemiology that uses data that was generated outside the public health system, i.e. with data that was not generated with the primary purpose of doing epidemiology.

Digital Epidemiology use the non-epidemiological data i.e, it is not the study of epidemics, but study of data which may or may not end up in epidemiological study.

      So,

My proposal in simple English is that "how to know the problems (especially health-related) of human beings just by using the internet tool" - This will applicable to both epidemiologist (who practices epidemiology) and to common people(other data scientists) who are already doing epidemiology even without knowing that they are doing it.

As you rightly pointed out , the word of title may be misleading because of the word "epidemiology". My proposal is for common data scientist to tell the novel method of doing data science (which may applicable to any field), but will choose the example of health field, as it is my domain and will benefit more to the people working in health.

Also my proposal now is just a terminology definition, the actual proposal will be submitted before the dead line with right words/right title.

Thank you once again for your valuable suggestions, it is noted.

        Solomon,

Appreciate your explanations. I dont think I ever doubted the term, just that because it is not defined formally yet, majority would know Epidemiology in a certain way and that can be misleading. thats all..

        Looking forward to your submission.

        Best
