Aruni Siriwardene, is a Senior Project Manager by profession and a trainer and planner in spirit. A certified Project Management Professional with over 14years of industry experience, locally and internationally. She is a trainer with extensive experience in practical project and program management in the IT industry, charitable organizations and bid management.
She had the opportunity of experiencing education in diverse cultures from primary education in Nigeria, secondary education in Sri Lanka to tertiary education in the United Kingdom. She has travelled extensively and has garnered many cultural norms that have helped her tailor her trainings accordingly to suit the current needs of a globalized industry.
Aruni holds a first class post graduate degree from Westminster University, and a diploma in Business management, both from the UK. She has also gained certifications in Oracle and recently completed an executive management course conducted by the premier business school in Sri Lanka, the Postgraduate institute of management (PIM). She is pursuing a Toastmaster certification and is a firm believer in cultivating positive thinking habits to achieve maximum growth in life. She is a living example of the 7habits of personal life, family life and effective management as taught by Stephen Covey and strives to inculcate its philosophy in her teams.
Aruni has a over 12years experience with hands on project management in the offshore industry traversing from waterfall lifecycles to iterative and agile. In the past 4years, Aruni has worked on several projects in both agile models and hybrid models of agile and waterfall. She currently heads the sales operations and contract creation and administration division and is an ardent advocate on the use of agile methodologies to explain working models to clients.
She served as a volunteer leader at the local PMI (Project Management Institute) Chapter and held the position of Director Communications 2010/2011, in charge of all e-media communications and editorial activities. She is also a member of the PMI Chennai Chapter. Aruni is an international trainer and speaker and has presented papers at the PMI India National Conferences.

A traditional software development project entails specifics around elements in or out of scope, tied up to deliverables, all ensconced within specified estimates and timelines, subjected to legal clauses for everything from acceptance to indemnities. For Agile contracts, the boundaries of legal intervention must stand; merely due to the marriage of parties when a project is executed; the definitions of boundaries must be established be it scope, budget or timeline and all standard deliverables from a traditional project stands; yet, the execution is as diverse as chalk and cheese.
What are the key criteria to be aware of when we define Agile contracts; as in typical agile projects, should the client be involved in mutually drafting the contract? How much legal intervention can we allow? What happens to deliverables and expenses when delays occur and scope boundaries are reduced? Can blame be apportioned to an extent that each party will have to indemnify themselves?
An Agile contract needs to reflect the nature of the engagement; no template contract with standard clauses can be coaxed upon a true agile project. In line with the Agile principles and values and targeted to the agile manifesto; Agile contracts should be just that – Agile!
