We are surrounded by careless design, closed corporate cultures and mediocre ambitions. My mission is to thoughtfully design epic experiences in collaboration with the people who inspire us to innovate. Currently, I'm doing this as Chief Design Officer at Lloyds Banking Group - leading a multi-disciplinary human-centered team with the singular goal of helping Britain prosper through empathetic and courageous design.
I have also done this in the past through my own innovation consultancy, Garage Partners - working with ambitious teams who were willing to take bold risks and to learn by making in their conceptual "garage" zone. I did this after two years as the first VP of Design at Capital One, where I helped build a world-class UX organization to Change Banking for Good.
Previously, I worked directly for Dr. Regina Dugan, (former head of DARPA and now captain of Google's ATAP: Advanced Technology & Projects), who exclusively hires innovation leaders for fixed 2-year terms. I started and guided design for Google's Project Ara and led design and/or research for products including the Moto X, Moto Skip, new RAZR, Mac Office, Microsoft Surface 1.0, Dell Studio Hybrid, Verizon.com and United.com.
The common thread across my career is the belief that design is most powerful when it's an expression of humble service, and innovation is most impactful when it fosters openness and inclusion.
Most importantly, I know seven versions of the running man.
