My bio used to simply say, "I do things". This is probably inadequate, so I'll add this…
I organise a series of events that have been held in Australia since 2012, called LAST Conference. The first was held in Melbourne, and it's since grown to have editions in Sydney, Brisbane and Canberra. Adelaide will be coming online in 2019. I also organise the first event in the Southern Hemisphere to be structured around Alistair Cockburn's, Heart of Agile. It's called 1st Conference. I have been involved organising Melbourne's longest running and largest agile meetup group, Melbourne Agile and Scrum User Group, since 2011. I also organise a conference called Spark the Change Melbourne. It's about meaning and purpose in work.
I have helped to bring people such as Jurgen Appelo, Alistair Cockburn and Bas Vodde to Australia to speak and/or teach. I have also spoken at meetups and conferences such as Scrum Australia, Agile Singapore and LAST Conference.
I've worked as a Solution Architect, Project Manager, Product Manager, Scrum Master, Coach etc., as well as being an organiser. The companies I have been involved with include businesses in Australia and the UK, that include Telstra, SecurePay, Pearson, and RMIT University.

Going Feral: How to Build agile capability by creating a culture of continuous learning

Sold Out!90 Mins
Workshop
Intermediate
Presenters: Ed Wong, Founder of the LAST, 1ST and Spark the Change conferences and Bruce Taylor, Agile Coach at RMIT Online.
Outline of program: How we used internal meetups, workshops, gamification, and learning design to build agile capability at RMIT University (One of Australia's oldest tertiary education institutions) as they navigated the rapidly changing world of online education.
With more and more institutions moving online, with all that implied in terms of speed, tech capability and agility, RMIT Online needed a world class agile capability. Ed and Bruce set up FERAL (The Federation of Eminent RMIT Online Active Learners): A fun, yet serious, way of fast tracking agile knowledge and practice within the many, disparate teams within this fast growing arm of the University. It was also a way of scaling learning and the effectiveness of 2 agile coaches working across multiple teams.
In this session we'll talk about the design of the program, the buy in needed from organisation, the types of workshops we ran, some practical examples from the workshops and our experiences running them and post-workshop application and coaching back in the teams to embed the practices.

Moniker game
90 Mins
Workshop
Beginner
This is a game that uses a popular party game called Monikers. It was adapted by our colleague (and LAST Conference BNE co-organiser), Jacinta Streat. She ran a session of this game at 1st Conference and I am doing a version of this for LAST Conf.
The session will consists of teams of players, working together to deliver "value", and competing/cooperating with other teams, along the way. It's a chance to think about how communication, delivery, reflection and improvement happen in teams and in organisations.
The times I have seen and facilitated this game, it's been a raucous and fun learning experience. So come along and let's learn together!
I'm using equipment for this game that is a combo of cards that Jacinta kindly sent ot me and the Creative Commons licenced Monikers cards. Monikers is available under a Creative Commons BY-NC-SA 4.0 license.

Norman Bodek's mission is to teach managers how to teach their employees how to be successful in life and also to teach teachers how to teach their students how to be successful in life.
Takashi Harada, a track and field coach, in Osaka, Japan developed a new methodology to lead underachievers to become winners. His students won 13 gold medals, best in all of Japan, and the school went from the worst to the best out of 380 schools. HIs methodology has been taught to over 60,000 people. Shohei Otani a student at high school and also followed the Harada Method, setting a goal to pitch in the Japanese baseball major leagues. He also set a goal to pitch at 99 miles an hour. He attained his goals and was selected into the majors. After just three years, he was Japan's best pitcher, throwing at 103 miles per hour, selected as most valuable player and rumored that the New York Yankees were willing to pay 20 million dollars to get him. The Harada Method might not get you into the major leagues but it will surely help you rise to your maximum capabilities. You can be a hero of your own life when you can learn how to set goals and how to attain them.
Norman Bodek has co-authored a book with Mr. Harada titled The Harada Method - the Spirit of Self-reliance. Self-reliance allows people to operate at their highest level of skill.
Norman played a prime role in introducing Lean to the West. He started with Vern Buehler the Shingo Prize and is a Shingo Prize winner. He was a frequent keynote speaker on Quick and Kaizen, Lean manufacturing and the Harada Method. He has written hundreds of articles; and when he owned Productivity Press he published a 100 Japanese management books in English, over 250 published books on productivity and quality, and has written seven books including his How to Do Kaizen and the Harada Method. -

We will open the day in the ATC 101 lecture theatre. The morning session will see us all together, with a new for 2017, experiment. We haven't tried anything like this before, so we hope it all goes to plan! No more details for now, we'll let you know more when we see you at Swinburne.
