JJ Sutherland is the Chief Content Office of Scrum Inc. where he oversees new content creation, publications, and papers. He is the co-author of Scrum: The Art of Doing Twice the Work in Half the Time with Jeff Sutherland, the co-creator of Scrum. He specializes in Scrum in government and particularly the Department of Defense. He spend years covering the military for NPR, both at the Pentagon and on the battlefield. He first used Scrum in the field during the Arab Spring of 2011 when he was the Scrum Master to a team of correspondents and producers in Cairo during the revolution. He is a frequent speaker and consultant on Agile teams, Agile in government, Agile Defense and Scrum outside of software. He is a CSM, CSPO, CSP.
Prior to working at Scrum Inc. JJ was an Executive Producer at NPR specializing in startups and building teams to tackle the most difficult stories of a generation from 9/11 to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. As a correspondent and producer he worked in conflict zones across the planet, from the bombed out streets of Beirut and Baghdad, to the devastated cities of Japan after the Tsunami, to Tahrir Square in Cairo. He has been recognized with multiple Peabody, DuPont, Overseas Press Club, Associated Press, and Edward R. Murrow awards over the course of his career.
