I have close to 18 years of IT industry experience which includes ~10 years of experience in implementing agile, both as agile practitioner and agile change leader capacity. I am currently working as Director (Technical program management) for a leading product org wherein all scrum master / agile coaches in a delivery unit report to me and uplifting org agile maturity is one of my key goal.
I have previously worked with Amazon which has given me rajor sharp customer focus and valuable experience of delivering products used by large number of operations folks and retail customers. Also, my experience with Thoughtworks (renowned firm for agile consulting) has given me tremendous practical exposure on how ideal agile implementation should look like.
As agile evangelist & coach, I have conducted several Agile workshops, trainings and events to help people learn not only concepts but also practical implementation aspects. My own experiences of leading agile transformations, running agile PMOs, delivering large scaled agile programs help me going beyond theory and provide real life implementation experience.
I am a constant learner and some of my other interests include enterprise architecture, business analysis and program management. Along with agile certifications such as CSM,CSP & PMI-ACP, I have done PRICE2 practitioner, PMP, ToGAF 9.1, ITIL. I have conduced several workshops on agile, PMI-ACP certification and on PRINCE 2 & TOGAF9. My diversified experience helps me in taking holistic approach for organization transformations.

The Art of Agile Project Initiation

Most of the agile framework focus on delivery part and provide little guidance on project initiation part. This leaves many questions unanswered and leads to lack of solid foundation to lay the bricks of agility. For examples, we need to ponder on - What are right questions to ask when we are in very first meeting with the sponsor? How to guide the sponsor through a process of converting high level business idea into a vision and go about chartering exercise? How to effectively conduct project initiation workshop and start with a discovery exercise that sets the scene for a project and produces an initial backlog? These are some of the concerns that I would like to address in my session.
Without this solid foundation there is huge risk of we running into problems later on, causing rework and delays. Also, we could end up building the wrong product and realize it quite late. I have learnt this hard way when my initial basic scrum experiments ran into problems and like to share my learning and experiences. I am not suggesting to move away from basic agile frameworks & principles like scrum, xp, lean/kanban but adding more tools / practices to it which are truly in line with values & principles of agile.
I will use many real life examples and analogies to explain some of the best practices which have worked well for me in pre-project / initiation stage.
A previous version of similar presentation was delivered in Discuss Agile Delhi2016 & in Agile NCR 2016 conferences and was very well received. It will be new for Hyderabad based agile community and I will add more based on further experience gained in past 2+ years. -

Implementing Agile in non-agile world

The simplicity of agile frameworks makes many of us believe that agile is simple. However, it’s actually extremely hard to make it working in a non-agile environment. By non-agile environment, I mean organizations which are fundamentally driven by heavy controls and governance; systems which are legacy large, complex & tightly coupled; multiple stakeholders with conflicting priorities and list goes on.
This paper is share my experiences of one such journey of implementing agile in such non-agile world. It was quite a bumpy ride but in the end, we got a recipe with perfect blend of scrum, XP and Kanban practices – something which was generating visible value and truly in line with agile principles.
