In 2012 my colleagues and I undertook the transformation of the Web Publishing Department of Electronic Arts from traditional project management methodologies to Scrum. The transformation was successful and powerful and has had a lasting impact at EA. Our group of 75 knowledge workers were distributed over several countries and time zones. Both the results, as well as the learnings from this transition are remarkable. We would like to share the ways the benefits lasted in the years that followed: our successes, failures & learnings. Our learnings include lessons about leadership in a successful transformation, how we leveraged technology, how roles and responsibilities changed, what was critical for success, and what we would do differently today.
