I grew up in Kentucky and Tennessee and relocated to Boston for college where I earned a undergraduate degree in Comparative Literature. After working for a couple of years, I decided to rekindle my love of computers and I returned to school to get a B.S. in Computer Science. I developed an interest in test automation while working for a medical device company. Unfortunately, the company wasn't that interested in automation, so I left in search of the right kind of opportunity. I worked for a couple small, understaffed start-ups before landing at Akamai where I fell in love with Selenium and UI automation.
As a result of struggling with the same problems other Selenium developers have -- flaky tests, silent failures of basic interactions, complicated and hard-to-test dynamic components, and the never-ending production of boilerplate code to handle them, I decided to write an API that modeled common UI components abstractly that could be configured to increase stability and robustness. After a lot of long hours and frustrating setbacks, I finally have a small and growing library of abstract components and utilities that have increased the performance and reliability of my automated tests.
