Try thinking of Windows, Macintosh, iPhone, Android, Gmail, Facebook, Whatsapp, Uber, Fitbit, Alexa, W3C, Angular, React, Flutter, etc., and you realise that none of these have been designed and created in India, BY India and FOR India. We are flooded with these since last the 3-4 decades without much realisation that most of these new-age digital tools & products are designed in western countries and are based in English language, which is native to their context and problems. However, for serving the diverse and gigantic digital needs of India, we may have to start-a-fresh ‘ground up’, by removing our western glasses and thinking through the basics of digital interaction. Why do we still say ‘Sign-up’, without paying much attention to the semantics, where to a mass majority of 50+ in India, Sign-up still means ‘signing a Cheque or a physical Document’ somewhere on the top of the page.

This session deals with the fundamentals of such mental biases, which we as design, technology and business groups from India carry by default due to our English education. Come, let’s explore these biases, gaps in our digital systems’ production thinking, to discover, the potential of a digital goldmine, which is still waiting to be excavated, for India, by India.
